Karma Lewandowski serves as the Transition Specialist for Grand Island Public Schools, where
she supports students within the special education population and their families in navigating
critical post-secondary transitions. In her role, she assists families with applications for
Developmental Disability Services, Supplemental Security Income (SSI), and Medicaid, and
provides guidance through the guardianship process. She also works directly with students to
prepare for and secure employment opportunities, helping them build independence and long-
term stability.
With 30 years of service to Grand Island Public Schools and deep roots in the Grand Island
community since 1996, Karma brings extensive experience in special education, systems
navigation, and family advocacy. Her work reflects a strong commitment to collaboration, equity,
and empowering individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential.
Lewandowski holds a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and Special Education
(Mild/Moderate), a Master’s degree in Special Education (K–12), and a Master’s degree in
Administration (K–12). She also has an endorsement in transition counseling. She brings to the
board a practical compassionate perspective grounded in educational leadership and community
