Teshawna Sawyer has supported and advocated for individuals with disabilities for over 15 years. For the last year she has served on the board as the secretary. Her career with individuals with disabilities has taken her from a direct care staff to management to a shared living provider. She has learned in each position and takes her knowledge into this position. Teshawna and her family have been members of the Arc of Central Nebraska and has volunteered for Honey Sunday for the last several years. Teshawna is passionate about all individuals getting the services they need even if it has to be a creative approach. She believes that everyone deserves respect and should be shown kindness. Teshawna is also a member of GI-ACT (Grand Island's Area Coalition on Trafficking), NE PATH, and continues her advocacy for survivors of human trafficking.
Teshawna lives with her 2 children (Tallon and Tenleigh), significant other (Fred Graves), and friend Matthew. Teshawna loves her family, friends and fur babies. She can generally be found spending time with them, at her job at the Crisis Center, or relaxing at home. Teshawna can also be found hosting get-togethers and cooking for friends. Teshawna loves to garden and spend time outside in the summer. From the pandemic she has come to appreciate how much she values the companionship of other people.
